| | Hard Cover Book with a Fore-Edge Painting of the Crystal Palace. A fore-edge painting is a picture that is painted on the edge of the pages that will only appear when the pages are bent. Without bending, the page edge appears gold. The book itself is "Tennyson's Poems". The dedication is "To the Queen", a poem that is dated "March 1851". There is an inscription inside the cover dated 1865. There is no date printed on the title page. The book was printed by "Edward Moxon & Co., Dover Street." London. Fore-edge paintings of the Crystal Palace are extremely rare. There is also an advertising flyer, just found, that lists a "Crystal Palace" Rose as one of the several items that they sell. The flyer is directed toward re-sellers. Size: The book is 4 3/8" wide by 6 5/8" high. The edge, before bending is 6 5/16" wide by 7/8" high. Condition: Overall Very Fine. The spine has wear and some cracking. The fore-edge picture is excellent. | |
